COUNSELING GOALS:
- To counsel each student as to the AUSD graduation requirements.
- To encourage each student to meet all graduation requirements within a four-year high school program.
- To present available options for post secondary plans.
- To assist in college/career planning.
- To help and assist each student to become a fully contributing member of our diverse society.
- To help and assist each student to become a self-directed, problem solving, socially aware citizen.
SERVICES AVAILABLE TO ALL AHS STUDENTS
- Academic counseling towards the completion of graduation requirements and post secondary option
- Scheduling, program adjustments provided as necessary.
- Weekly progress reports available upon parent request.
- Student participation in annual City Wide College Night.
- Financial Aid Workshop for Juniors and Seniors
- Identification and referral of students with special needs to Student Study Team/Impact Coordinator.
- Referrals to Tri-High Health Center
- College Application Workshops for Seniors.
Additional Services:
GRADE 9:
- Individual Learning Plan developed with each student and counselor.
- 9th grade Parent Night.
- Introduction to College Career Center.
GRADE 10:
- Student, parent and counselor participation in Sophomore Counseling.
- Exploration of career/post secondary options with career guidance software, “Choices” in Current Life Issues course.
- Opportunity to take the PSAT in October.
GRADES 11 and 12:
- 11th and 12th grade academic status letter at end of 1st semester.
- Information available on PSAT, SAT I II, ACT and TOEFL.
- Grade level presentations in Career Center.
- Students invited to College/Career talks.
- Make up Competency tests given.
GRADE 12
- Senior Check List mailed early October.
- CSU and UC applications available.
- CSU and UC workshops in October.
- Graduation status monitored throughout the year.
- Peralta College tours.
