Attendance

Student attendance in school and promptness to class are key to student achievement..

Student attendance in school is also how we get money to operate.  Every day a student is absent - for whatever reason, Alameda High School loses $40.  See below for extended absence contract information for planned absences.

ATTENDANCE OFFICE PHONE:  510-337-2320 (last name A-L) or 510-337-2321 (last name M-Z)

IF YOUR STUDENT IS ABSENT DUE TO ILLNESS, PLEASE CALL AND LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE, OR SEND YOUR STUDENT WITH A NOTE TO THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE.

IF YOUR STUDENT IS ABSENT DUE TO A MEDICAL APPOINTMENT, COURT DATE, OR AN OFFICIAL MEETING, PLEASE BRING THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTATION BACK FROM THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE OR APPROPRIATE AGENCY.

STUDENTS MUST COME TO THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE when they return – WITH THEIR PICTURE STUDENT ID

For attendance inquiries:

Antoineta D'Costa - Students A - L (adcosta@alameda.k12.ca.us)

Cynthia Rosenthal - Students M - Z  (crosenthal@alameda.k12.ca.us)

Off Campus Permit Passes

Off campus passes are mandatory if your student is going to leave school.  Students need an off campus pass during class time only.  They may leave during lunch time without an off campus pass.

The attendance office needs a telephone call or note from the parent requesting the off campus pass.  The student must get the off campus pass before going to class; in case of an emergency, we will notify the student during class.  Students then need to go to the Attendance Office with their picture ID to get their off campus permit.

Upon returning to school the same day, the student must return to the Attendance Office to get a time stamped pink pass.  Students returning to school the next day will receive the yellow copy of the off campus permit.  Attendance will post the periods missed and the student will use the yellow copy signed by the parent, doctor, court, etc. as their admit pass the next day.

Excused school-related absence codes explanation:

M:  When a student is NOT in class, but is present on campus with a certificated staff member, i.e. testing, counseling, guidance, discipline – Mock Congress, Blood Drive, Assemblies

Y  Used for all school site/AUSD-approved activities during the school day that takes place outside the regular classrooms – off campus, i.e field trips, athletics, etc

Contracted Study:

If your student is going to be out of school from 5 to 10 consecutive school days, please consider a Contracted Study program.  Parents or guardians must request a Contracted Study form from the Attendance Office, have it signed by all teachers and an attendance clerk, and return it to the Vice Principal for approval at least 5 days prior to the planned absence.  Students are required to return the complete assignments upon return to AHS in order to receive credit for their work.  The State of California reimburses the ADA (Average Daily Attendance) for that student's absences at $40 per day, provided the deadlines are met.
